Rehearsals are in full swing for one of the best loved musicals of all time, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers to be staged from February 24th to March 3rd in the Community Centre. It promises to be a fun-filled production of fabulous songs and impressive dance moves together with light-hearted comedy – just what we all need in the present times! Based on the film of the same name Seven Brides For Seven Brothers is all boisterous fun and romance that harkens back to the glory days of the movie musical. Some of the well known songs include Bless your beautiful hide, Wonderful day, Going courtin, Lonesome polecat and Sobbin’ women.
The members have been rehearsing diligently since long before Christmas and everyone is enjoying the fun and frolics in the run up the this eagerly awaited popular show. Watch this space for further details.

week with the male exercise class Wednesday at 8.30pm and the female
fitness class Friday at 7pm. The Bootcamps on Saturday at 9am are
proving to be a great success. Remember all are welcome to join in on

Fanning provides health and nutrition advice during each class. The
groups are doing very well and are enjoying the program. Well done to

A huge thank you to everyone who came to our Yoga and Curry Night last week. A great time was had by all, and we raised €260 for the Dromahair Demons Festival! Money to a great cause, and we can’t wait until the 18th June!

I was in Dublin last weekend for this course, run by Gayle MacDonald of www.medicinehands.com

It was Gayle’s first time teaching in Ireland, and it was a wonderful and insightful course. The thing is, when you’re training in massage, you’re most often taught that you should never massage anyone with cancer. The thinking was that massage could move lymphatic fluid around the body and that this could “spread” the cancer. This has proven to be completely false. The process of cancer spreading, metastasis, is caused by a genetic mutation, and nothing else. Lymph is pushed around the body by every day movements, so if the theory was true, doctors would insist that all patients stay in their beds for months. In fact, they encourage quite the opposite.

However, massaging during cancer is something that needs to be treated with great respect, and therapists do need appropriate training to first do no harm.

Which is why I was on the course!

As I flicked through the Style Magazine from the Sunday Times (which is a highlight of my week, I must admit) I must say I was surprised to see Manorhamilton included as one of the hippest neighbourhoods in Ireland.

Surprised in a good way, of course. It is true – Manorhamilton is a hub of creative activity, full of musicians, filmmakers and artists. The Glen’s Centre is a fantastic spot for intimate gigs, and nothing beats the French bread from the Friday market.

So well done Manorhamilton. You’re officially “hip”. Though not as hip as us.

Ideal for all age groups, it is a fun way to get fit or keep fit. Sarah Mulligan from Mohill will be taking the class, and said that she will be  mainly demonstrating line dancing but will also be getting involved in some more fun activities. style="text-decoration: underline;">ATHLETIC CLUB - Training resumes at the Sports Hall in Tuesday evening next at 6.00 p.m. and all, including new members, are welcome. Preparations will commence for the various Indoor Athletics events which will take place over the next three months. These will include the Leitrim Indoor Championships in Carrick on Sunday February 13th, the Connacht Championships in Nenagh and the proposed new Primary Schools Sports Hall Athletics competition to be run in conjunction with the Leitrim Sports Partnership.

Our Comedy Show will be on stage in four weeks time. The name of the show will be decided on shortly and it will be on stage in Ballinamore Community Centre on Friday 11, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 February. It will also be staged at other venues in the County. It promises to be a hilarious night’s entertainment with traditional comedy at its best. style="text-decoration: underline;">Clothing Bank: As part of our Green School’s Recycling Project and also to raise funds for our school, St. Patrick’s Boys’ NS now have a clothing bank on the school grounds.  All clean, used clothing, shoes etc can be put in a plastic bag and placed in the clothing bank, which will be emptied regularly.  The school will receive €4 per bag of clothing recycled.  We would appreciate any support you may give to this project.

style="text-decoration: underline;">Speech and Drama Classes starting up in the Shaylin Centre, Ballinamore on the 13th of January for children aged between 7 and 11 years. Classes will take place on Thursdays from 4pm until 5pm and will be run by a qualified Teacher.  During the class, the children will work on aspects of Voice, Drama, Acting and Mime, in a fun and imaginative environment. The Ballinamore Area Senior Citizens Christmas Party took place last Sunday in the Commercial Hotel and it was a great success, despite the bad weather.  The Committee would like to then the Commercial Hotel and staff for the wonderful meal they provided.  We would also like to thank the musicians and singers for their excellent entertainment, not forgetting all those who helped out on the day to make this event so enjoyable.  And a special thanks to the many people and business who contributed so kindly and do so year in and year out.  All sponsorships and donations will be acknowledges early in the New Year.  Wishing you all a very happy Christmas and good health and happiness in 2011.

style="text-decoration: underline">Fundraising in aid of STOP – There will be a fundraising night in Drumcoura City on sat 1st Jan organised by Christopher Mimna & Team Kinkeen who are cycling from Phoneix Park Dublin to Drumcoura City Leitrim on 30th April 2011 in aid of S.T.O.P (Suicide, Teach, Organise, Prevent), Dromhair, Co Leitrim. S.T.O.P promotes positive mental health, assists and supports individuals who feel suicidal, are in distress or those who have been bereaved by suicide. /> Music on the night by Carrigallen Band “BREEZE”. Finger food and spot prize on the night. Admission optional – Please support this worthy cause.

St. Stephen’s Day Table Quiz in Aid of Goal

Blazers Basketball Club will be holding their annual table quiz in aid of Goal on St. Stephen’s Day at 4pm in Smyth’s Siopa Ól.  This year there is a slight twist as the theme will be Sports and Soaps!  So start getting your teams of 4 ready, keeping in mind you’ll be needing a ‘TV soaps expert on your team!

Next Monday night the 27th, please support the annual quiz in aid of Palestine, teach tàbhairne Mac Feargail 9.46 pm. General knowledge will be an advantage on the night but far more important is to arrive bearing gifts, which will be transferred into raffle/spot prizes, last year such was the generosity of those in attendance that the time taken for the raffle draw exceeded the ten rounds of the quiz! The result being that everybody is a winner, especially the various causes/people in the Gaza/West Bank territories who are handed the proceeds of the quiz directly, guaranteed no admin costs. Always a great cause and a great nights craic, Chifidh sibh ansin agus Nollaig Shona daoibh.

A new Ecumenical Gospel Choir is being formed in the South Leitrim area.  The aim of this choir is: (a) to bring people from all religions and cultural backgrounds together to share and enjoy gospel music and (b) to work towards achieving a standard that will enable us to perform for theatres, corporate events, charity events etc. Gospel music is the soul of religious music!
