Hundreds of Aughavas residents make case for retention of local post office

aughavas-2017

aughavas-2017It’s hoped An Post will look favourably on the high levels of submissions from people in the greater Aughavas community of Leitrim to retain their local post office.

An Post opened a public consultation process on the future of the service after recent the sale of the premises; the deadline to make the case for its future is tomorrow.

With the current postmistress set to resign, the new owner Michael ‘Sambo’ Reilly who will return from America to run it, has pledged to invest in the building and develop the services offered.

Over 300 people have signed a petition in the post office in the last few weeks – there’s been 500 ”Likes” on the Aughavas Post Office Facebook page, with local organisations and residents also sending in letters to the regional office in Sligo.

Terry Williams has been organising the campaign to retain the service.
