A planned €16-million rebuild of St Patrick’s Hospital in Carrick-on-Shannon will not take place to the rear of its current site.
This month’s meeting of Leitrim County Council heard yesterday that a feasibility study has found that the land is not suitable.
It had been thought that the long-awaited new unit, which has been granted €16 million in funding, would be constructed on this site that runs down to the Leitrim Road.
The meeting was told that discussions are now taking place between the local authority and the HSE to identify another location.
Fine Gael councillor Finola Armstrong-McGuire says she understands three possible sites in the town are being considered, with one in particular drawing favour.
