A senior IFA official looks set to contest the local elections for Sinn Féin in the Ballinamore electoral area.
Aughnasheelin farmer Pat Gilhooley is one of three people nominated for Sunday’s selection convention, which will take place in Ballinamore Community Centre at 6pm.
He is a former Leitrim IFA chairman and is currently the vice-chairman of the national rural development committee.
The others nominated are sitting councillors Brendan Barry, from Drumshanbo, and Caroline Mulvey, from Cloone.
Three candidates will be selected, so there’ll be no contest.
Ballinamore’s Máirín Martin decided not to let her name go forward because she felt it could conflict with her community work.
