Teenagers from Shannonside region in Dublin to showcase youth projects

Dozens of teenagers from across the Shannonside region are in Dublin this morning to showcase community and youth projects. Projects to highlights local services in a Roscommon community as well as a campaign to get a bus shelter will be among the projects being exhibited at the the Aldi Foróige Youth Citizenship Awards in Dublin today.

Hundreds of teenagers from across the Shannonside region are members of youth clubs and today in Dublin projects they have been working on for the last number of months will be exhibited. In the Community belonging section Loughglynn Foróige Club are exhibiting project to make residents aware the services and facilities available locally while the Girl Gang for the South Leitrim Neighbourhood Youth Project developed a project to highlight their own activities and its impact on its members.

The Attic House Teen project also examined their efforts to get a bus shelter for their local community while in the Environment section, Arigna Foroige Juniors will be looking to impress the judges with their project on a community garden they developed. Ballymahon’s Foroige club went more international in their efforts as they looked at the impact of the palm oil industry on endangerment of orangutans while Edgeworthstown Older Boys group organised a football tournament for local boys and raised money for the Irish COPD foundation.

The Hideout Foróige Club, Ballinamore organised a sleep-out and fundraiser for the homeless raising €14,000, while the Edgeworthstown Foroige club focused their efforts on an intergenerational volunteering project at the manor nursing home. A separate intergenerational project was developed by the Game Changers Foróige Club in. Leitrim where they decided to make cards and visit the elderly in St Patrick’s Hospital. and Longford Comhairle na nÓg also are hoping to highlight a project to raise awareness of services available to young people in the community.
