Business sentiment among hotels and guesthouses across Roscommon, Leitrim and Sligo has dropped sharply year on year according to the Irish Hotels Federation.
The federation says it represents a stark change in outlook compared to last year, and reveals that only 40% of hoteliers nationally now have a positive outlook for their business over the next 12 months.
Fergal Ryan who’s chairman of the Roscommon, Leitrim and Sligo branch of the hotels federation says the impact of any downturn as a result of Brexit and other issues is always felt more sharply in this region.
He says the hike in tourism VAT and increase in minimum wage have all put pressure on the industry and it’s facing serious challenges over the next few years.
