400 people attend Border Communities Against Brexit meeting in Leitrim

Boris Johnson will likely lose a vote calling for a snap UK general election this evening.

It comes after his visit to Dublin this morning during which the Prime Minister was told the backstop can’t be dropped from any deal by Leo Varadkar.

In a statement after the meeting both leaders acknowledged there are significant gaps still between the British and Irish positions.

Meanwhile, communities along the border are facing the prospect there may be a return to a physical border between north and south.

Over 400 people from right across the region attended a meeting with Border Communities Against Brexit in Clones last night.

Leitrim B&B owner, JJ O’Hara says many are becoming really fearful of a return to the situation of over 25 years ago.

He says he’s not impressed with the current discussions around border posts.

Members of Border Communities Against Brexit protested at the Dáil earlier, calling on Boris Johnson to ensure there’s no hard border when the UK leaves the EU.
