Gardai in Carrick-on-Shannon are urging parents of teenagers attending a junior disco in the town tonight to make sure their son and daughters have tickets for the event and are not intoxicated before the event.
Up to 1600 children are set to attend the event at Cartown as teenagers across the region celebrate the results of their first official state exam.
The Gardai will be mounting a significant presence at the event and will also be carrying out spot checks on buses carrying teens to the event, as well as conducting operations this afternoon to prevent the sale of alcohol to anyone underage.
Inspector Frank Finn told Shannonside FM that they are looking for parents help to try and make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable night
