Storm Lorenzo: Leitrim comes under yellow wind warning

Storm Lorenzo will bring winds of up to 130 kilometers per hour in some areas this evening.

Orange and yellow weather warnings are in place across the country, and the latest announcement from Met Eireann has stated there is a yellow warning for Leitrim and Sligo. Status orange wind warnings have also come into effect for Galway, Mayo, Clare, Kerry and Limerick.
There will be west veering northwest winds with average speeds of 50 to 65km/h and gusts of 90 to 100km/h. The warning is valid from 6pm today until 6am tomorrow.

An Aer Lingus flight to and from Ireland West Airport at Knock and Gatwick London has been cancelled this evening.
Marketing Manager at IWAK Donal Healy says there should be no issues tomorrow morning.


County Councils across the region are maintaining a watchful eye for fallen trees and inaccessible roads and people are asked to report any incidents. In Longford the out of hours emergency number is 1850 211525.
And in Leitrim, the public is asked to report any issues to the emergency servies on 999 and details will be passed on to officials.
All local authorities ask the public to keep up todate on their social media accounts, twitter or facebook.

In the case of an electricity outage, Longford Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer Austin Concannon has this advice.

Several events across the Shannonside region due to take place tonight have been cancelled as a result of the weather forecast.

Bingo nights in Aughnasheelin, Athlone GAA club, Moyne and Ballyleague have all been called off.
The monthly Whist Drive in Ballinamore is also cancelled, and Mohill Social Dancing in Fenagh Community Centre won’t be going ahead either.
