Blow to local brokers as EBS withdraws services

ebs

Several Shannonside financial brokers are set to be badly affected by EBS’s decision to withdraw services from them.

A Ballaghaderreen customer claims the decision will be a major blow to local towns, while a local credit union manager claims it will regret the decision.

EBS has written to up to 300 brokers countrywide to tell them that following a business review, it has decided to exit the deposit account market that it offered through its brokers.

Therefore, it’s no longer offering new demand or fixed-term accounts.

The financial organisation has notified brokers their appointment as an intermediary with it will cease at the end of this year.

Brokers throughout Roscommon, Longford and Leitrim are set to be among those who suffer a monetary loss as a result.

Ballaghaderreen’s Michael Scally is among the customers affected – he’s had a EBS deposit account through a local broker for many years.

EBS says that, for customers, there’ll be no change to the product they hold and the current terms and conditions for the relevant product will remain in place.

But John Murphy, the manager of Glenamaddy Credit Union, has also hit out.

Kenny wants ‘fraud squad’ to investigate bank scandal

martin-kenny-2017

A local Sinn Féin TD says the ‘fraud squad’ should be called in to investigate the tracker mortgages scandal.

Thousands of homeowners were overcharged or wrongly denied a tracker rate by their bank after the economic crash.

Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe has spent the week being briefed by bank executives, and the Governor of the Central Bank says most of those affected should be repaid in the coming months.

Sligo-Leitrim Deputy Martin Kenny said government action is long overdue.
